04:30 pm - :-( Sad Day at Hyak
There was a large slide at Hyak/Summit East this morning. Took out several poles on Keechelus Chair (the one that goes to the top) and knocked some homes off their foundations.

Here's a good pic from the WSDOT flickr set: http://www.flickr.com/photos/wsdot/3177642935/in/set-72157612242253091/

Here's the rest set:

06:16 pm - So the ski hills are starting to open
Has anyone been brave enough to make the trek up to one?

If so, how was it?

11:20 am - Couldn't get better

Shuksan morning, originally uploaded by Zantil99.

For everybody that didn't come with me up to Baker on Saturday (that would be, well, everybody), this is what you missed out on. I'd been saying that I wanted to go up to Baker on a sunny day or a powder day, and I got both. 5" of fresh with 50" in the past week, it was anywhere from ankle to knee deep, and oh so nice.

07:35 am - Baker, anybody?
Heading up to Baker tomorrow if anybody is interested. They still have over 200" at the base, and have gotten 45" in the last week. I'm expecting between 5 and 9" of fresh in the morning, so it should be a good day.

11:43 am - The Summit/Sick Day!
Guess who's feeling a little sick today? (A little under the weather...) ;)

Heading up in about an hour. Forecast: Heavy snow, heavy snow, heavy snow, snow, snow, snow x infinity.

23 inches of new snow (read: powder) at Alpental in the last 48 hours. We made it up Wednesday night and it was spectacular.

[edit: too good to be true. just about to leave the house, got a flat tire. came home to kill time before AAA gets here, hopped online and the pass is closed for 8-10 hours for avalanche control! I wish I would have headed up this morning and then I could actually be stuck up there right now. damn.]

01:15 pm - Anyone want to hit Snoqualmie tomorrow?
I'm going skiing tomorrow at Snoqualmie. Does anyone want to join me?

Crowds should be small because of the Super Bowl. They gotten 8+ feet of snow this week and the pass has been closed (or the power's been off) so there should be plenty of powder to enjoy.

If someone's willing to come with me I'll ski whatever terrain makes them happy; beginner/intermediate/advanced. I just want to get out to the mountain and have some fun.

X-Posted to my LJ.

09:38 pm - Highlight of my day
Besides, you know, the knee to waist deep powder up at Stevens today and skiing more unnamed runs than named ones, I saw this guy around a couple times. Unfortunately I didn't manage to get a better picture, but I didn't want to seem too weird. Then again, *he* was the one snowboarding in a bear suit...

One more pretty for the day...Collapse )

11:34 am - Stevens tomorrow?
Given the weather today, and the forecast for tonight and tomorrow up at Stevens, I think I might just have to head up there in the morning. Anybody interested in going with?
